A lot of Dallas homes built between the 1960s and 1990s have a tub in every bathroom, even when nobody uses one. Converting one of them to a walk-in shower is one of the most common projects we do.
The job starts with demolition: the tub, the old surround, and usually the drywall or backer behind it come out. That's when we find out what's behind the walls. Soft subfloor or old water damage gets repaired before anything new goes in.
Next is the plumbing. The drain moves to suit the new shower pan, and the old valve is usually replaced with a pressure-balancing one so the water temperature stays steady when someone flushes a toilet.
Waterproofing is the step you never see and the one that matters most. Walls and pan get a continuous waterproof membrane before any tile goes on. Skip it and you get leaks and mold a few years later.
Then the part you do see: tile, a built-in niche for shampoo, maybe a corner shelf or bench, new trim and shower head, and glass or a curtain rod. A typical conversion takes several days, depending on tile and curing time.
Before you call, think about tile size and color, whether you want a niche or bench, and whether you want glass. Then call New Sky Construction Group at (346) 365-7112 for a free written quote.
