Most plumbing emergencies start as something small that got ignored for months. Here are five signs worth acting on early.
A water bill that jumps without explanation. If your usage hasn't changed, a hidden leak or a running toilet is the usual cause. A running toilet alone can waste hundreds of gallons a day.
Slow drains in more than one fixture. One slow sink is usually a local clog. Several slow drains, or gurgling when the washer drains, can point to a problem further down the line.
Stains or soft spots on ceilings and floors. Brown rings on a ceiling below a bathroom, or a floor that feels spongy near a toilet or tub, mean water is getting somewhere it shouldn't.
Low water pressure, especially in one area. Mineral buildup is common in North Texas water, but sudden pressure drops can also mean a leak or a failing valve.
Rusty or discolored hot water. That often means the water heater tank is corroding from the inside. Replacing it on your schedule beats replacing it after it floods the garage.
